Network performance in Orlando
In the previous part of this series, we looked at the relative improvement in Sprint’s (S) and AT&T’s (T) network reliability metrics in Orlando in fiscal 1H16 compared to fiscal 2H15. This was based on RootMetrics’ 1H16 results for this market. Now let’s look at the overall performance of the top four US wireless carriers in this market in 1H16.
Based on RootMetrics 1H16 results for Orlando, Verizon (VZ) retained its top position in the overall network performance metric. Like 2H15, Sprint shared second place with AT&T (T). T-Mobile (TMUS) retained its fourth position.
Network speed of wireless carriers in Orlando
According to RootMetrics’ 1H16 results for Orlando, T-Mobile’s ranking in the network speed metric for the metro market improved a notch from 2H15. The carrier shared the top spot in this metric with Verizon. AT&T retained third place. However, it had to share this spot with Sprint. In 2H15, Sprint had fourth place in this metric.
Instead of taking direct exposures to the stocks of players in the US telecom industry, you can consider taking a diversified exposure to the space by investing in the iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV).
IVV held a total of ~2.4% in some of the US telecom players at the end of December 2015.
