Telefónica’s mobile component in Germany in 4Q15
Telefónica’s (TEF) revenue in Germany (EWG) rose ~2% YoY (year-over-year) to reach ~2.1 billion euros in 4Q15. Let’s look at the performance of the mobile component of the carrier in this market during the quarter.
YoY, Telefónica’s mobile revenue rose by ~2.8% to reach ~1.8 billion euros in Germany. The YoY fall in the mobile service revenue of Telefónica Germany was more than offset by the growth in handset revenue during 4Q15.
The company’s mobile service revenue in this geography fell ~0.9% YoY to ~1.4 billion euros during 4Q15. During the quarter, Telefónica’s mobile data revenues in Germany fell YoY by ~1.5% to ~0.71 billion euros. This fall came from the SMS (short message service) component.
According to Telefónica, excluding SMS, its mobile data ARPU (average revenue per user) in Germany rose ~1.3% YoY in 4Q15. During the quarter, its handset revenue in this geography rose ~18% YoY to 0.41 billion euros.
Telefónica Germany’s mobile customers in 4Q15
Telefónica’s mobile connections in Germany rose ~2.2% YoY to reach ~43.1 million by the end of 4Q15. YoY, the company’s number of contract customers rose ~1.6% to reach ~19.1 million during the quarter. On a net basis and after adjustments, the connections gained in this component were ~198,000 in 4Q15.
YoY, Telefónica’s prepaid connections in Germany rose by ~2.7% to reach ~24 million at the end of 4Q15. However, it had ~24,000 prepaid net losses in the market during the quarter.
