Telefonica’s 3Q15 mobile revenue in Spain
In the last part of the series, we saw that Telefonica’s (TEF) revenue growth in Spain (EWP) moved out of negative territory during 3Q15. The revenue increased slightly by ~0.2% YoY (year-over-year) to reach ~3.0 billion euros during the quarter. This was due to a robust YoY growth in revenue from fixed services in this geography. Telefonica’s mobile component in Spain continued to dampen the 3Q15 revenue growth.
During 3Q15, Telefonica’s mobile revenue declined ~2.6% YoY to reach ~1.1 billion euros in Spain. A robust YoY increase in mobile data revenue limited the decline in mobile service revenues during the quarter.
Telefónica en España’s mobile service revenue decreased by ~3.3% YoY to reach ~0.94 billion euros in 3Q15. Mobile data revenue in this segment grew robustly by ~13.5% YoY to ~0.43 billion euros.
Note that the sequential increase in these data revenues was a significant ~8.9% during 3Q15. Sequentially, mobile data ARPU (average revenue per user) increased ~9.2% to ~8.3 euros during the quarter.

During 3Q15, Telefonica’s mobile connections continued to decline in Spain. These clients decreased ~2.7% YoY to reach ~17.3 million during the quarter. Nonetheless, the company’s contract customers increased marginally by ~1.4% YoY to ~14.4 million in 3Q15. The churn of contract customers improved from ~1.5% in 3Q14 to ~1.3% in 3Q15.
