T-Mobile 10GB family plan
In the previous parts of this series, we looked at T-Mobile’s (TMUS) Simple Choice plan. We also took a look at T-Mobile’s Mobile without Borders initiative to target customers’ wireless traffic in Mexico and Canada.
T-Mobile continues to launch new offerings to make its Simple Choice plans more attractive. Recently, the company started a 10GB (gigabyte) plan for families. The T-Mobile 10GB family plan can be compared to Verizon’s (VZ) More Everything plan, AT&T’s (T) Mobile Share Value plan, and Sprint’s (S) Family Share Pack.
Highlighting the core features of the T-Mobile 10GB family plan offer, the company stated, “With the new offer, two people can get up to 10GB of 4G LTE data each – no sharing required – for just $100 a month. Then, each additional line is just $20 more per person – also with 10GB of T-Mobile’s blazing-fast 4G LTE.”
The plan also includes typical benefits, including unlimited calling and texting, data stash, and Wi-Fi telephony. The carrier has also added a time-bound, promotional offer for a free fourth line with this plan.
While launching this plan, T-Mobile has stopped offering a similar 10GB Simple Choice family plan for $100 per month with unlimited calling and texting.
Comparing T-Mobile’s 10GB family plan to other players’ offerings
According to T-Mobile, its 10GB family plan for four lines costs less than a similar Verizon More Everything plan. And unlike Verizon’s More Everything plan, sharing data isn’t necessary on the T-Mobile 10GB family plan.
According to the company, the plan is also more economical than similar four-line offerings on AT&T’s Mobile Share Value plan and Sprint’s Family Share Pack. These two plans also require customers to share data.
You may take exposure to T-Mobile while diversifying risk by investing in the iShares Russell 1000 ETF (IWB) or the iShares Russell 1000 Value ETF (IWD). IWB held ~0.05% in T-Mobile as of June 30, 2015. T-Mobile contributed ~0.1% of IWD’s holdings on the same date.
