Year-to-date returns

As of October 21, 2014, Chipotle Mexican Grill’s (CMG) year-to-date (or YTD) returns were~16.3%—compared to average returns of 8.3% on the S&P 500 Index and an average 6.7% among the peers listed below.

CMG’s YTD returns before the earnings were ~25%. They dropped to ~16%. The decrease was fueled by the sell-off. The sell-off was a result of lowered same-store sales guidance.

In the above table, CMG’s last 12 month (or LTM) return on equity (or ROE) is 22.8%. ROE represents the percentage of income generated from shareholders’ equity. It’s calculated as net income divided by shareholders’ equity.

As a whole, CMG continues to deliver solid results. CMG also introduced its two new concepts to its managers at the conference held at Las Vegas at the end of the quarter. This could mean that CMG may leverage its existing employees to launch these concepts aggressively in the coming years.
