Steven Cohen and Point72 Asset Management’s 1Q 2014 positions

Steven Cohen’s Point72 Asset Management, the new name for SAC Capital Advisors, disclosed new positions in its 13F filing this month. Although the number of holdings in the portfolio reduced in 1Q 2014 to 1,649 from 1,688 in the previous quarter, the size the portfolio was increased to $1.92 billion in 1Q 2014 from $1.72 billion in 4Q 2013.


Point72 Asset Management added new positions in BlackBerry (BBRY), Liberty Global (LBYTK), Estée Lauder Companies (EL), and Discovery Communications (DISCA). The main positions the fund sold include Foster Wheeler (FWLT) and Broadcom (BRCM). The fund’s top position increases include Yahoo (YHOO) and Baidu (BIDU).

Point72 focuses primarily on discretionary long/short equity investing and makes significant quantitative and macro investments. News reports noted that SAC Capital Advisors’ $1.8 billion settlement of a U.S. government insider trading investigation received final court approval in April. The business also finalized its transformation into a family office called Point72 Asset Management in April.
