The cryptocurrency Dogecoin was started as a joke by Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer and is recognized as the first meme coin. Now, some consider Doge, which features the image of a Shiba Inu, a legitimate investment, and the cryptocurrency hit a market capitalization of over $85 billion in 2021.
Elon Musk first tweeted about Dogecoin in 2020, causing the value of Dogecoin to increase by 20 percent. In 2021, Musk announced that Tesla would accept Doge as a form of payment. It is currently the 10th-largest cryptocurrency in the world.
