AMD stock up 2.5%

Today, memory chip stocks were some of the top gainers in the S&P 500 Index (SPY). Advanced Micro Devices’ (AMD) stock rose 2.6% in the early trading session on rumors of new a CPU and GPU.

Rumors around Ryzen 2700x 50th Anniversary Edition

AMD’s new CPU, the Ryzen 2700x 50th Anniversary Edition, appeared on two online retailers’ websites: ShopBLT.com and Connection.com. ShopBLT.com removed the CPU shortly afterward and refused to take pre-orders. The website stated, “We have no information as to when we will be accepting more orders for this item.” The CPU is still available for pre-order at Connection.com.

The CPU hasn’t been announced officially, but its appearance on online retailers’ websites shows that AMD might launch this special CPU to celebrate its 50th anniversary on May 1. Intel (INTC) launched the Core i7-8086K 50th Anniversary Edition last year, but it was a limited-edition CPU and a good performer in the overclocking arena.

While retailers didn’t provide any details about the Ryzen 2700x, it was listed on ShopBLT.com at $340.95 and at $373.09 on Connection.com, indicating that the CPU is around the $350 mark. Before updating the CPU as “out of stock,” ShopBLT.com’s listing showed that it will stock 1,200 units. If the listing proves true, the Ryzen 2700x won’t be a limited edition.

Rumors around AMD’s Navi GPU

Meanwhile, an article in TweakTown stated that AMD might launch its next-generation 7nm (nanometer) Navi GPU at E3 2019, which is scheduled to take place between June 12 and 14.
