Britney Spears’ Attorney Agrees To Work Pro Bono As She Fights Dad
The legal battle surrounding pop superstar Britney Spears' conservatorship that controlled her personal and financial affairs finally coming to an end in November 2021. The move came after a series of court appearances where Spears passionately voiced her opposition to the legal arrangement, which she said was abusive and controlling.
But the drama is far from over. Spears' attorney, Mathew Rosengart, is continuing to fight on her behalf against her estranged father and former business manager.
Rosengart's Work for Britney Spears
Mathew Rosengart has been a key player in the legal proceedings surrounding Britney Spears, having been retained as her attorney in July 2021. Since then, his law firm has reportedly received over $4 million in payments from the pop star for his services. However, TMZ reports that Rosengart is now offering his services pro bono as Spears continues to fight her father following pushback from her team.
Rosengart has been instrumental in many of the legal victories that Spears has secured in recent months, including having her father suspended as her conservator and dissolving the conservatorship altogether. He has also helped her secure a prenuptial agreement, obtain a restraining order against her stalker ex-husband Jason Alexander, and negotiate deals for her music and forthcoming memoir.
Jamie Spears' Role in the Conservatorship
Britney Spears' conservatorship was established in 2008 after she experienced a series of personal struggles that were widely reported in the media. Her father, Jamie Spears, was put in charge of her personal and financial affairs, a role that he maintained until the conservatorship was terminated in 2021. Throughout that time, he and various attorneys were allegedly paid over $36 million from Spears' estate.
Rosengart has accused Jamie Spears of receiving "at least $6 million" for his role in the conservatorship, as well as petitioning for fees to be paid to dozens of different law firms for "more than $30 million." Jamie has denied any wrongdoing.
Britney Spears' Net Worth
As mentioned by Page Six, Despite her many successful ventures over the years, including chart-topping albums, a Las Vegas concert residency, and a judging role on "The X Factor," Britney Spears reportedly had a net worth of just $60 million when her conservatorship ended. The amount pales in comparison to the millions that were allegedly paid out to her father and various attorneys during the conservatorship.
