From Ben Affleck's "Daredevil" to Ryan Reynold's "Green Lantern": Roles That Actors Regret Doing
When actors open up about hating their own movies
Acting in a big project or simply getting to be a part of any production is a dream come true for many actors, but sometimes they have to say yes to a character even if they don't like it that much. Once they achieve success, some actors get quite candid about disliking a film that they appeared in. Let's take a look at some actors who admitted to hating the movies they were part of.
1. George Clooney – Batman & Robin
Several actors who portrayed Batman on the big screen over the years, and it seems like a coveted role for many. However, there's only one actor who wore the infamous Batman suit that had "batnipples" on it. Clooney once said that he was scared that he had successfully "destroyed" the Batman franchise and was thankful to the person who played Batman after him and saved it.
2. Ben Affleck – Daredevil
Long before his stint as Batman, Ben Affleck played the Marvel superhero "Daredevil" and agreed with all the negative reviews it received. He told Entertainment Weekly in the year 2007 that "Daredevil" didn’t work at all, adding that he would be less polite if he wanted to go viral. On another occasion, Affleck said that he hated 'Daredevil' and that it frustrated him.
3. Jennifer Lawrence- Passengers
Jennifer Lawrence once said that she did not like the movie "Passengers" at all and added how the famous singer Adele had warned her against starring in the film. Adele told her that space movies are the new vampire movies, and Lawrence later felt that she should have listened to the singer. The actress described how everything was like a rebound effect and that she was jus reacting, rather than actually acting.
4. Sarah Jessica Parker – Sex and the City 2
Sarah Jessica Parker is known for playing Carrie Bradshaw in "Sex and the City," but the second installment in the movie franchise based on the show, did not go down well with the audience. It was also panned by critics and even Paker said that she agreed with the audience.
5. Colin Farrell – Miami Vice
Colin Farell was very clear about his views on the movie "Miami Vice" and said that he did not like it much. He went on to describe it as all style and less substance, and went on to take some responsibility for it himself. The film directed by Michael Mann has been reappraised by fans in recent years with many saying that it did not get a fair chance upon its release. However, we aren't sure if Farell feels differently about the movie that came out in 2006 was a blockbuster.
6. Katherine Heigl – Knocked Up
Katherine Heigl is still best known for her role in the movie "Knocked Up" which she didn't like very much, and once described as a little "sexist" since it paints women as shrewd and humorless along with being uptight. She told Vanity Fair that the movie showed men as goofy and fun-loving while women were uptight and shrews. She also said that she the characters were exaggerated to quite an extent and that she had a hard time with it on some days. But after her comments, she had to issue a public apology to the film's director.
7. Josh Brolin – Jonah Hex
Before he rose to fame with his role as Thanos in MCU, he portrayed another comic book character on the screen named, "Jonah Hex." Hex was not at all positively received by the critics or by Brolin himself thought that it deserved the bashing for reasons that those critics will never know. He added that they were almost ready to drop the film but the director Jimmy Hayward was an interesting young person full of energy and obsessed with Jonah Hex. But Brolin admitted that not leaving the film turned out to be a really bad decision.
8. Viola Davis – The Help
Although Viola Davis was nominated for the Academy Award for the movie "The Help," she did not enjoy playing the maid Aibileen Clark, saying her character’s voice is not heard enough in the film. She mentioned "The Help" as one of the movies she regretted doing, and added that she wanted to make people feel what it was like to work for white people in the 1960s and to bring up their children.
9. Ryan Reynolds – Green Lantern
The actor who transformed the superhero genre with Deadpool later in his career, previously appeared in DC's "Green Lantern," which he himself has never watched. He said that whatever he has seen has not made him feel very good. He showed his feelings in the 2016 movie Deadpool in which he even shot the fictional version of himself in the head for taking on the role of "Green Lantern." But he also mentioned that the 185 people who worked on that movie had an amazing time, and loved shooting it, before adding that sitting at the premier and watching it was tough.
10. Channing Tatum – GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra
Channing Tatum once said that he hated the movie "GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra," and also revealed that he was forced to do the film. He didn't think that the script was any good and said that he didn’t want to do something that he was a fan of since childhood. He reportedly played the titular role because of a contract with Paramount.
