How Is Short Interest in Whiting Stock Trending?

Short interest in Whiting Petroleum stock

Whiting Petroleum’s (WLL) short interest as a percentage of float, or its short interest ratio, was ~22% on July 17, 2017. At the beginning of the year, the short interest ratio in WLL’s stock was ~12.6%.

The graph above shows that both the short interest ratio in Whiting Petroleum’s stock and its stock have shown dramatic movements since the beginning of 2017.

WLL’s short interest ratio has risen significantly since the start of this year, but the stock has fallen just as considerably in the same period.

On January 3, 2017, Whiting Petroleum’s stock was trading at $12.64. In contrast, on July 17, 2017, WLL’s stock was trading at $5.14.

Short interest ratios of WLL’s peers

In comparison, WLL’s peers Apache (APA), Concho Resources (CXO), and Cimarex Energy (XEC) have short interest ratios of ~7.2%, 3.4%, and ~2.1%, respectively.
