Point72 Asset Management’s 3Q14 positions
Steven Cohen’s Point72 Asset Management, formerly S.A.C. Capital Advisors, disclosed new positions in its 13F filing last month. The fund makes significant quantitative and macro investments.
The fund’s portfolio decreased slightly to $13.2 billion in the third quarter—compared to $15.6 billion in the second quarter. The third quarter ended in September.
In this series, we’ll highlight the top positions that Point72 Asset Management traded during the third quarter. The main positions traded during the third quarter are outlined in the above table.
During 3Q14, the fund increased its positions in Tyson Foods, Inc. (TSN), Canadian Natural Resources (CNQ), and Anadarko Petroleum Corp. (APC). The fund reduced its stake in Whiting Petroleum Corp. (WLL) and Baker Hughes Inc. (BHI).

Apart from the stocks mentioned above, the fund initiated new positions in Laredo Petroleum, Inc. (LPI), Superior Energy Services, Inc. (SPN), and Alere Inc. (ALR). It sold its stake in Packaging Corporation of America (PKG), Martin Marietta Materials (MLM), and Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ). These were small positions that accounted for less than 1% of the total 3Q14 portfolio.
