Analysts’ bullish stance

Analysts are bullish on the entire airline industry (JETS) and have provided “buy” recommendations on all three of Credit Suisse’s (CS) “outperform”-rated stocks United Continental (UAL), Delta Air Lines (DAL), and Alaska Air Group (ALK).

Alaska Air has a consensus rating of ~2.25 from analysts polled by Thomson Reuters (TRI). About 63% of analysts have provided bullish recommendations on the stock. Three of the 16 analysts tracking the stock have given it “strong buy” ratings, seven have given it “buy” ratings, five have given it “hold” ratings, and the remaining one analyst has given it a “sell” rating. Analysts’ target price of $78.00 on the stock represents a potential 13.8% rise from the current price of $68.52.

Delta Air Lines

Analysts polled by Reuters have provided a consensus rating of ~1.63 for Delta Air Lines. About 95% of analysts have provided bullish recommendations on the stock. Out of the 19 analysts tracking the stock, eight have given it “strong buy” ratings, ten have given it “buy” ratings, and one has given it a “hold” rating. Analysts’ target price of $67.94 on the stock represents a potential 21.4% rise from its current price of $55.97.

Delta Air Lines has received sharp upward revisions to its EPS estimates for 2018 and 2019. The mean estimate for its 2018 EPS increased to $5.53 from $5.51 on October 10. Its 2019 EPS estimate improved to $6.39 from $6.35.

United Continental

United Continental has a consensus rating of ~2.11 from analysts polled by Reuters. About 56% of analysts have provided bullish recommendations on the stock. Six of the 18 analysts tracking the stock have given it “strong buy” ratings, four have given it “buy” ratings, and eight have given it “hold” ratings. Analysts’ target price of $102.56 on the stock represents a potential 10.5% rise from its current price of $92.86.

United Continental has received sharp upward revisions to its EPS estimates for 2018 and 2019. The mean estimate for its 2018 EPS increased to $8.53 from $8.17 on October 15. Its 2019 EPS estimate improved to $10.10 from $9.58.
