PPL (PPL) operates in the regulated domain. PPL’s distribution business is concentrated in the United Kingdom. It manages its utility operations through its subsidiaries, namely PPL Global, PPL Electric, Louisville Gas and Electric, and Kentucky Utilities.
PPL’s subsidiaries
PPL Global is engaged in the regulated distribution of electricity in the United Kingdom. It serves nearly 8 million customers located in Wales and central and southeast England through Western Power Distribution. Western Power Distribution is a British regional electricity distribution utility company.
LKE is a wholly owned subsidiary of PPL and a holding company of Louisville Gas and Electric (or LG&E) and Kentucky Utilities (or KU). LG&E and KU are engaged in the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity. LG&E also looks after the distribution and sale of natural gas.
KU operates 8,000 megawatts of regulated generation capacity. KU serves 1.3 million customers. It serves customers in Virginia under the name Old Dominion Power. PPL’s Pennsylvania regulated segment operates an electricity delivery business in eastern and central Pennsylvania, serving 1.4 million customers.
Utilities (XLU) (IDU) such as American Electric Power (AEP) and Exelon (EXC) have noteworthy presences in Pennsylvania.
PPL Capital Funding is the financing subsidiary of PPL. It provides financing for the operations of PPL and its other subsidiaries. Debt issued by PPL Capital Funding is guaranteed for payment by PPL.
