Electronic Arts: A Market Leader in the Gaming Space

Electronic Arts (EA) was founded in 1982 and has one of the largest global gaming networks, with over 300 million registered users. EA has partnered with Tencent in China and Nexon in Korea for free-to-play PC and mobile games. With over 2 billion downloads of its mobile games, Electronic Arts is the fourth-largest mobile company in the West and the 12th largest globally.

Electronic Arts also owns an enviable list of gaming franchises such as FIFA, Madden, Battlefield, and Battlefront. The just-released Star Wars game is free to download from Google Play and the App Store.

“We’ve created a game for Star Wars and RPG fans where you can mix and match your favorite characters from across all the films and TV shows, creating squads with heroes from both the light and dark sides,” said John Salera, executive producer of Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes at Capital Games.

He added, “The game is simple to control but has incredible depth and breadth. You can strategize on which characters complement each other most, then make your custom teams more powerful with new gear and loot you win from battles, on all the planets and epic locations that you love, anytime, anywhere.”

While EA’s games, content, and live services are available across platforms, it is primarily dominated by Microsoft’s (MSFT) PlayStation and Sony’s (SNE) Xbox One in the console space. It is also supported by Apple (AAPL) and Google (GOOG) on their iOS and Android platforms, respectively, in the mobile space.

EA constitutes 4.5% of the iShares North American Tech-Software ETF (IGV).
