What is Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky's Net Worth?

Brian Chesky is one name on Airbnb's list of executives. With the travel and leisure company heading towards a market debut any week now, Chesky admits he was against the Airbnb IPO in the first place. 

Despite his initial misgivings, Chesky gave in to the calls of eager investors. As Airbnb seeks to raise $3 billion in capital—during a raging pandemic, no less—how much is this chief executive officer worth?

Airbnb has three co-founders: Brian Chesky, Joe Gebbia, and Nathan Blecharczyk. They founded the business in 2008 as Air Bed & Breakfast before eventually transitioning to the name we know today. At the time of its inception, Gebbia and Chesky were roommates in San Francisco.

Together, the founders own a 42 percent stake in the company, which is currently valued at $18 billion (less than half of what it was worth prior to the COVID-19 pandemic). When Airbnb goes public, investors will be able to find it on the Nasdaq Exchange.

Brian Chesky is the CEO of Airbnb. He's also the Head of Community for the company. Throughout Chesky's time spearheading Airbnb, the company has grown to amass 500 million unique users in 100,000 cities and 191 countries.

At 38 years old, Chesky is originally from Niskayuna in Schenectady County, N.Y.. His birthday is on Aug. 29.

According to Forbes, Chesky maintains a $3.1 billion net worth. In 2016, Chesky and his co-founders joined The Giving Pledge. The philanthropic community pledges to donate half of their wealth to charity over the course of their lifetime.

Other U.S.-based members of The Giving Pledge include Bill Ackman, Diane von Furstenberg, Warren Buffett, and MacKenzie Scott.

Chesky isn't the only billionaire on Airbnb's list of co-founders. Both Blecharczyk and Gebbia are also billionaires, each with their own $3.1 billion net worth. It seems like the trio has forged an equitable relationship from the start. 

After all these years, Chesky is still based in San Francisco, Calif. He's even rented out his own apartment on the Airbnb platform (which he says helps him meet people, many of which are entrepreneurs like himself). His current place is a lot nicer than the one he lived in with Gebbia in 2008.

Earlier this year, Chesky reflected on Airbnb's struggles getting through lockdowns. He said, "It felt like the house was on fire, and you are inside the house while it is on fire doing everything you can to help save it."

Chesky has a girlfriend named Elissa Patel Waverly. They reportedly began dating in 2013 after meeting on notorious dating app Tinder.

Waverly is a professional artist and designer. She owned a New York City storefront called East Darjeeling, where she sold fashion accessories. According to Google, the shop is permanently closed—but Waverly continues to progress in her design career.
