Mattel, which is an American multinational toy manufacturing company, was the S&P 500’s top gainer on May 15. After regaining strength last week, Mattel started this week on a weaker note by pulling back on Monday.
Mattel opened Tuesday on a stronger note and rallied to nine-week high price levels. Mattel lost strength on Monday afternoon amid the pullback of major US market indices. However, the release of strong retail sales data on Tuesday amid increased consumer spending pushed Mattel higher and helped the stock recover the Monday losses. Retail sales grew 0.3% in April.
On May 15, Mattel gained 6.1% and closed the day at $15.06—the highest daily close since March 8. Mattel is part of the S&P 500 Consumer Discretionary sector, which declined 0.61% on May 15.
