Cisco Systems leads the collaboration space

Earlier in this series, we learned that the cloud would continue to dominate the IT (information technology) space. Amazon (AMZN) and Microsoft (MSFT) will benefit the most from this trend.

In addition to competing with Amazon in the cloud space, Microsoft bumped Salesforce (CRM) from its leadership position in the enterprise SaaS (software-as-a-service) space.

It is believed that Microsoft’s dominant position in the collaboration space helped it lead the enterprise space. However, a recent report by Synergy Research Group, released in April 2017, shows that Cisco Systems (CSCO) leads the collaboration space.

Cisco managed to grow its market share for a third straight quarter and now holds more than 15% of the space, as the above chart shows. In terms of market share, Microsoft is approximately 2.5% behind Cisco. IBM (IBM) is also a key player.

Collaboration space was close to its all-time high in 2016

The collaboration market topped the $9 billion mark once again and was close to its all-time high. Microsoft’s strong position in collaboration helped it maintain its leadership position in the SaaS space for three straight quarters. Earlier, the enterprise Saas space was dominated by Salesforce (CRM).

The collaboration space encompasses enterprise voice, enterprise content management, enterprise social networks, telepresence, unified communications, email software, and several hosted/cloud communications and applications.
