  • US inflation
  • US retail sales

Economic indicators are important for market participants since they show the short-term change in market behavior. In the first week of February 2018, we saw a lot of nervousness in some US indexes in spite of strong economic data. The S&P 500 Index (SPX-INDEX), the NASDAQ Composite Index (COMP-INDEX), and the Dow Jones Industrial Average Index (DJIA-INDEX) fell significantly in the first week of February 2018.

In this series, we’ll analyze UK inflation and US inflation for January 2018. We’ll also analyze retail sales for that month. Inflation and retail sales are both important economic indicators. In the present scenario, inflation data play a major role in the market’s movement. The stronger-than-expected inflation figure is raising investor concerns that it could lead to more aggressive interest rate hikes by the Fed.
