Did Juniper Networks Beat Analyst Estimates in 2Q17?

Revenues of $1.3 billion in 2Q17

US-based (SPY) Juniper Networks (JNPR) reported revenues of $1.3 billion in 2Q17, a rise of 7% YoY (year-over-year) compared to revenues of ~$1.2 billion in 2Q16. Its GAAP[1. generally accepted accounting principles] operating margin in 2Q17 was 19.7%, up from 16.7% in 2Q16 and 12.8% in 1Q17. 

The company’s non-GAAP operating margin rose to 24.2% in 2Q17 from 22.5% in 2Q16 and 20.8% in 1Q17.

Juniper Networks’ GAAP net income rose 28% YoY to $179.8 million with EPS (earnings per share) of $0.47. Its non-GAAP net income rose 15% YoY to $220.5 million with EPS of $0.57 in 2Q17.

During the company’s earnings call, Juniper’s CEO, Rami Rahim stated, “We had good revenue growth and earnings expansion in the second quarter.”

Rahim added, “We believe our innovative product portfolio has us well positioned to expand our business opportunities as customers look for high-performance network solutions that deliver scale, performance and automation.”

What did analysts expect from Juniper in 2Q17?

Analysts expected Juniper Networks to post revenues of ~$1.3 billion in 2Q17, with EPS of $0.54. While Juniper Networks reported revenues slightly above expectations, it beat its EPS estimate by 5.5% in 2Q17.

Juniper Networks has a market cap of $11.4 billion. Among its peers, Cisco Systems (CSCO) and Nokia (NOK) have market caps of $160.0 billion and $36.0 billion, respectively.
