European electricity demand
Falling electricity demand is a huge setback for global electric utilities (JXI). In the European Union, electricity demand rose by ~1.1% in 2015, recovering from a fall of ~2.3% in 2014.
The rise in electricity demand in European countries in 2015 was mainly driven by favorable weather and countries’ improving economies. The economies of eastern and southern European countries (IEV) (VGK) continue to expand, which bodes well for power demand.
The above graph shows the mostly positive growth in electricity demand in Eastern and Southern Europe in 2014–2015.
