Kathy Bates' personal life

Kathy Bates' personal life has been marked by both triumphs as well as challenges. She married Tony Campisi in April 1991 after being together for 13 years, but their union eventually led to divorce in 1997. Despite her personal struggles, Bates exhibited immense resilience when it came to her health. In 2003, she confronted a battle with ovarian cancer, a diagnosis that remained undisclosed to the public until January 2009. At that time, she revealed that she had achieved "total remission" for over five years, offering hope and inspiration to others grappling with the disease.

Bates' indomitable spirit was further evident when she battled another health crisis in July 2012, after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis. In 2014, during the New York Walk for Lymphedema & Lymphatic Diseases, Kathy shared her experiences through a pre-recorded message, shedding light on her battle with lymphedema, a condition stemming from a double mastectomy. She not only became an advocate for lymphedema awareness but also took an active role in serving on the Lymphatic Education & Research Network's honorary board as a chairperson. Kathy's efforts to raise awareness and promote research into lymphedema were lauded in 2018 when she was honored with the WebMD Health Heroes "Game Changer" Award for her unwavering dedication to this cause.
