She started out as a model in the late '90s and went on to appear in the 1998 NBC television film "Race Against Fear: A Moment of Truth." In this film, she is seen as a former high school track star who is afraid to speak up about the abuse she suffered from her coach in the past. She was then seen on the comedic  MTV series "The Lyricist Lounge Show," which was a  hip-hop variety program.

She then landed her breakthrough role in the sitcom "Girlfriends," where she played the protagonist Joan Carol Clayton, Esq., an accomplished and neurotic lawyer. She was also seen in an episode of the sitcom "Second Time Around," and appeared in the HBO TV film"Life Support." She soon appeared on "Private Practice" and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,"  and bagged a role in the sitcom "Reed Between the Lines." 

She was cast as Dr. Rainbow Johnson on the ABC sitcom "Black-ish" that became one of her most acclaimed roles. She won numerous awards as well as an Emmy and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations.

Apart from appearing on TV shows, she has also appeared in films like "Far Harbor" and "In the Weeds." Additionally, she was also seen in many music videos such as Kanye West's "The New Workout Plan" that came in 2004 and his other song "Touch the Sky." She was also seen in Drake's music video titled "Nice for What" which was released in 2018.

She is the proud owner of her haircare brand which specializes in products for curly hair. The products are tailor-made for Black hair and strive to offer the best treatments and accessories.

She lived in her Los Angeles home for almost a decade. Last year, she listed the house for $2.3 million. She also owned a studio apartment in NYC's Tribeca neighborhood that she bought for $780,000 in 2007. She sold the unit in 2020 for only $675,000.

Tracee Ellis Ross was born in 1972 in Los Angeles, California. She is the daughter of the famous singer and actress Diana Ross and music business manager Robert Ellis Silberstein. She prefers to keep her personal life under wraps and therefore not much is known about her. However, rumors had it that she was in a relationship with "Black-ish" creator Kenya Barris.
