While low interest rates during the pandemic opened up the demand for real estate, the market is in a stranglehold of rates that have skyrocketed to record levels. In 2022, New York toppled London for the title of the world's priciest city in the ultra-high-end sector. Despite these challenges in addition to a looming recession, a select few names in real estate managed to post record numbers with sales volumes worth millions. Here is a look at some of the top realtors in the U.S. and their performance.

1. Oren & Tal Alexander (The Alexander team)

After a successful stint at Douglas Elliman, brothers Tal and Oren Alexander now have their own firm, which sold properties worth more than $1.2 billion in 2022 with $730 million coming from New York alone. They accomplished the sale of a $55 million penthouse at the new Aman, as well as a $35 million penthouse at 20 Greene St. in Soho, and another one at 520 Park Ave. worth $34.5 million, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

2. Fredrik Eklund & John Gomes (Douglas Elliman)

John Gomes and Fredrik Eklund, won the title of THR‘s New York Team of the Year, for stunning sales worth $4.6 billion in 2022. With this, they posted a $4 billion-plus number for two years in a row, as per The Real Deal. The Eklund | Gomes team is under a five-year contract with Douglas Elliman and has catered to the likes of Jennifer Lawrence and Jennifer Lopez. The team specializes in new developments like The Edison, Olympia, and Greenwich Village’s 64 University Place.

The team of brothers Josh and Matt Altman is among the few who consistently sell properties worth $1 billion a year. Their biggest sale was the Hidden Hills estate worth $14 million for Rams coach Sean McVay, followed by Milla Jovovich’s Beverly Hills compound for $13.4 million, and Britney Spears’ Calabasas estate for $11.8 million, as per The Hollywood Reporter. The team’s clientele also includes Scooter Braun who purchased a newly built $65 million mansion setting a record for Brentwood. The Altmans have sold real estate worth more than $5.5 billion.

4. Rochelle Atlas Maize (Nourmand & Associates)

Rochelle Atlas Maize helped sellers of a Beverly Hills Estate bag $1.5 million more than the asking price of $9 million from none other than Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas. She also represented The Abbey owner David Cooley for his $4.42 million purchase of Emma Stone’s cliffside Malibu home. Maize has sold real estate worth over $3 billion, and represented the seller of an estate in Beverly Hills which was bought by Neil Diamond for $12 million, a $1 million upgrade on the asking price, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

5. Cindy Ambuehl (Compass)

Hollywood actress turned luxury real estate expert and broker, Cindy Ambuehl capitalized on her presence in showbiz to sell properties worth more than $298 million in 2021. She sealed the deals for 2909 Mandeville Canyon Rd., at $5.5 million, 175 N. Tigertail Rd., at $11.2 million, 625 Kingman Ave., Santa Monica, at $6 million; and 719 San Lorenzo St., Santa Monica, at $4 million, which marked a record-breaking sale for dollar per square foot in Santa Monica Canyon, as per Variety.

6. Santiago Arana (The Agency)

During his career, Santiago Arana has brokered real estate deals worth more than $3 billion, and his sales topped $581 million in 2021 alone, as per Variety. His top deals include 242 N. Carmelina Ave for $22.2 million, and 609 E. Channel sold for $48.67 million, which was a record. He also helped out Ann Sarnoff, the former Warner Bros. CEO, with his $18 million purchase of a Palisades spread previously owned by Matt Damon. His clientele includes bigwigs such as Lebron James, Lady Gaga, Anthony Hopkins, “Bond King” Jeffrey Gundland, Alessandra Ambrosio, and more.

7. Fred Bernstein (Westside Estate Agency)

Fred Bernstein who is a Westside Estate Agency partner, is representing casino mogul Steve Wynn to sell off his $100 million Beverly Hills estate, which was initially listed for $125 million. Earlier, Bernstein had sold a Beverly Hills estate that once belonged to power broker Lew Wasserman’s daughter for $35.5 million. Bernstein has also helped DJ and music producer Zedd with his $15.2 million purchase of a mansion in Encino from Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

Noble Black has facilitated property sales worth more than $3 billion, and he has been consistently ranked among the leading brokers in New York City. He is also a permanent fixture among Douglas Elliman’s top three teams, and his biggest sale to date is penthouse 60 at 520 Park Ave., which was sold for about $73 million, as per Variety. He also has a list of celebrity clients which includes Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson, Musician John Legend, and Chrissy Teigen.

9. Drew Fenton (Hilton & Hyland | Carolwood Real Estate)

With career sales worth over $6.5 Billion, Drew Fenton has represented the likes of producer David Zander who bought Todd Phillip’s $30.7 million Beverly Hills Estate. He also helped Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher with real estate deals, along with Aaron and Sam Taylor-Johnson, and facilitated Snap CEO Evan Spiegel's $120 million purchase in Holmby Hills in an off-market deal, as per The Hollywood Reporter. He co-listed Paul Williams’ Bellagio Estate which was picked up by Kevin Feige for a whopping $52 million.

Carl Gambino has so far sold real estate worth $1 billion in his career, which includes Mindy Kaling’s SoHo loft for $2.4 million in a record deal. Last year, Gambino raked in over $375 million from property sales and caters to high-net-worth clients across several hot markets. He has closed deals for Renée Zellweger, Sean Combs, and Joe Jonas & Sophie Turner, whose $15.2 million sale of their Encino house was the second priciest ever at the time, as per LA Times.
