Former radio show host Chris Hogan built his career advising people on personal finance through radio and books. His position as host at Ramsey Solutions has since been terminated for personal reasons.
The self-proclaimed retirement and debt expert reportedly violated Dave Ramsey's company standards, but what does that really mean? Here's what happened to force Chris Hogan and Dave Ramsey's parting.
Personal scandals led to Chris Hogan's demise
Dave Ramsey is an evangelical Christian, and he runs his company with a set of standards that align with his religious ethics. Formerly, Hogan was so popular that people thought he might succeed Ramsey himself in due time. But that all changed on Mar. 10, when Hogan announced his removal from the company.
Hogan divulges the fact that he's no longer a Ramsey team member in a YouTube video on his channel for The Chris Hogan show. Hogan said, "Recently, it’s come to light that I’ve done some things personally that are not in line with Ramsey Solutions and as a result, I’m no longer a team member at Ramsey."
This is undoubtedly vague, and it left people wondering exactly what happened. Ramsey's company is extremely strict and requires their employees to abide by a "righteous living" code, which aligns with the evangelical ethics of Ramsey's religion. In 2018, the company was sued by a woman who was fired for becoming pregnant outside of wedlock.
Ramsey himself has been quoted saying that moving in with a significant other outside of marriage is "so freaking inconsistent and stupid" for anyone who claims to love their pastor and church. He has also referred to his company culture as "godly."
Given all this context, it's likely that Hogan has been removed from the team for his several known affairs. One of these affairs was with another company employee, and it went down while Hogan was in the process of divorce. His divorce itself is likely not approved by Ramsey, either.
Interestingly, Hogan has had numerous chances with the company. The same cannot be said for female counterparts who have been booted on the spot for their supposed misgivings.
What's next for Chris Hogan and Ramsey Solutions?
With Hogan gone from Ramsey Solutions, it's likely that he will take some time out of the limelight to let things wind down. Given that he has published books (including Everyday Millionaires) and gained a following, I wouldn't be surprised to see him given his own show outside of the Ramsey Solutions network.
Right now, though, Hogan's ex-wife said, "My hope remains that Ramsey Solutions will choose to be transparent about and take responsibility for their role in harming people, show repentance, and change in ways that align with the gospel of Jesus Christ. [...] It is a similar hope that my ex-husband can do the same, for the benefit of himself and others."
As for Ramsey Solutions itself, the 2018 lawsuit is still weighing on them. In fact, the discrimination lawsuit from former employee Caitlin O'Connor is just starting to buzz.
