Is Rachel Maddow Married?

Rachel Maddow is a well-known U.S. television news show host. She works for MSNBC and hosts The Rachel Maddow Show, which airs nightly. Rachel Maddow also works as a special event co-anchor at MSNBC with Brian Williams.

Although most people know what Rachel Maddow does professionally, only certain details are known about her private life. Although Maddow has been in a long-term relationship for over 20 years, is she married?

Rachel Maddow has been in a long-term committed relationship with Susan Mikula for over 20 years. The pair met in 1999 when Maddow moved to western Massachusetts. She was working on her doctorate dissertation and Mikula hired her to do some yard work.  

Eventually, Maddow and Mikula started dating and became partners. Their first date was a “Ladies Night on the Range” event hosted by the National Rifle Association.

Although Maddow and Mikula are in a long-term and committed relationship, they aren’t married. In an interview with Fabulosa, Maddow explained that although they are both extremely happy in their relationship, they aren’t rushing to tie the knot. 

In an interview with The Telegraph, Maddow said, “Gay people not being able to get married for generations meant that we came up with alternative ways of recognizing relationships. And I worry that if everybody has access to the same institutions that we lose the creativity.”

In November 2020, Rachel Maddow announced that she had to quarantine due to being in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. Two week later, on Nov. 19, she announced that the close contact was Mikula. Although Mikula's battle with COVID-19 was serious and concerning at times, she is expected to make a full recovery. Maddow continues to test negative for COVID-19. 

The couple splits their time between a pre-Civil War farmhouse in western Massachusetts and an apartment in the West Village in Manhattan.

Susan Mikula is a professional artist and photographer. Although she uses newer technology, she also uses older technology to take photographs like pinhole cameras and Polaroid cameras. Mikula had her first solo art exhibition in 1998. She has worked in the art industry for years and was even on an art jury. Mikula opened her first art show in New York in 2008.

Mikula has been part of the Art in Embassies Program for the U.S. Consulate in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico since 2017. The United States Embassy Art purchased some of her works, which are on display as part of the Permanent Collections in Nuevo Laredo. 

Due to her success as a professional artist and photographer, Susan Mikula’s net worth is estimated to be $5 million.

In addition to hosting the most successful show in MSNBC history, Rachel Maddow is also the first out lesbian anchor of a major primetime news program in the U.S.
