In early November 2016, Symantec announced that it had been named a leader in The Forrester Wave: Data Loss Prevention Suites, Q4 2016 report. According to Forrester, “Symantec provides a comprehensive DLP suite with robust capabilities for intellectual property protection, information management, incident management, and encryption support.”

New launches and integration with Blue Coat Systems

In the previous quarter, Symantec integrated its DLP with Blue Coat Systems’ CASB, resulting in DLP features being able to run on cloud applications. Symantec DLP can discover sensitive data in at least 60 cloud applications, including Microsoft (MSFT) Office 365, Box (BOX), Dropbox, Google Apps (GOOG), and Salesforce (CRM).

In the past, we’ve highlighted that Endpoint Protection and DLP, which are the fastest-growing subsegments of the company’s Enterprise Security business, are expected to benefit from Blue Coat’s integration with Symantec.

Blue Coat Systems, Cisco Systems (CSCO), Check Point Software Technologies (CHKP), Palo Alto Networks (PANW), and Fortinet (FTNT) are the top five players in the security appliance space. Following the Blue Coat acquisition, Symantec could see its position strengthen in the security appliance space.
