DRAM 2GB spot prices fell month-over-month
In this series, we’ll explore the trend in prices of memory products—DRAM (dynamic random-access memory) and NAND (negative AND). We’ll analyze the expected performance of these products and related companies in 2016.
The following graph shows that the spot price of 2GB (gigabyte) DDR3 (double data rate 3) DRAM fell 0.94% from $0.96 on March 25, 2016, to $0.95 on April 5, 2016. The spot price of 4GB DDR 3 DRAM fell 1.3% from $1.65 to $1.63 in the same period.
32GB NAND spot prices fall in April 2016
The above graph shows that the spot price of 32GB NAND fell 0.05% from $1.998 on March 25, 2016, to $1.997. The spot price of 64GB NAND fell 0.22% from $2.68 to $2.67 in the same period. Major companies in the DRAM space include Samsung (SSNLF), Micron Technology (MU), SK Hynix (HXSCF), China’s (FXI) Nanya Technology, and Winbond Electronics.
To get exposure to Micron Technology, you can invest in the iShares PHLX Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) and the VanEck Vectors Semiconductor ETF (SMH). Micron Technology accounts for 3.7% of SOXX and 3.2% of SMH.
