EA Studios overview

Electronic Arts’ (EA) EA Studios encompasses studios and development teams that create games and related content, franchises, and services. The FIFA, Madden NFL, Need for Speed, Battlefield, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age franchises all fall under the umbrella of the EA Studios organization.

You can consider investing in the PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) and the Technology Select SPDR (XLK) to gain exposure to Electronic Arts. EA makes up about 0.35% and 0.47% of these ETFs, respectively. The above image shows the announcement of new games on consoles and PC platforms in 2015.

Studios under the organization

DICE (Sweden), EA Canada (Canada), Tiburon (the United States), BioWare (Canada and the United States), and Visceral (the United States) are some of largest studios within EA Studios. All these studios, though different from each other, operate as one team through the use of common technologies and shared development frameworks.

BioWare created the free-to-play, multiplayer online game Star Wars: The Old Republic that we’ll discuss in a later part of this series.

Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment’s (DICE’s) portfolio includes the Battlefield franchise—Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2, Battlefield Vietnam, Battlefield Modern Combat, Battlefield 2142, and Battlefield 3. Other titles in DICE’s portfolio include Mirror’s Edge, Pinball Dreams, Motorhead, Codename Eagle, Midtown Madness, and Rallisport Challenge.

Visceral Games created the Dead Space series. Visceral Games is currently working on a Battlefield title—Battlefield Hardline—expected to hit the market in March 2015 on Sony’s (SNE) PlayStation 4, Microsoft’s (MSFT) Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
