Verizon’s Fios video net additions
The major driver of Verizon’s (VZ) wireline component is its Fios offering, a fiber-optic network that provides customers with video, Internet, and voice services. Analysts expect Verizon to lose 70,000 net Fios video subscribers in the fourth quarter, due to the intense competition presented by OTT (over-the-top) players.
Pay-TV operators are losing customers as users migrate from traditional linear TV to OTT services at competitive prices. OTT services directly provide content to consumers over the Internet. YouTube TV, Amazon Prime Video, and Netflix (NFLX) are leading providers of OTT services. In the fourth quarter, Netflix expects to add a total of 9.4 million subscribers.
