How the Adoption of New Strategies Could Help Netflix

Importance of Millarworld acquisition

Video streaming giant Netflix (NFLX) bought comic publisher Millarworld in August 2017. That’s the company’s first acquisition in its 20 years of existence. It intends to use the popular content from Millarworld to add to its original portfolio.

In order to boost its content portfolio, Netflix is looking at some important series from Millarworld, including Jupiter’s Legacy from Steven DeKnight and a multilingual version of American Jesus. It’s also mulling over film projects Empress, Huck, and Sharkey The Bounty Hunter.

The acquisition of Millarworld came at a point when the Walt Disney Company (DIS) has decided to launch its own DTC (direct-to-consumer) streaming business in 2019. The move could allow Disney to remove its popular shows based on Marvel characters Daredevil, Punisher, and the Defenders from Netflix’s program list. It could even pull out some hit movies.

Sirius XM partnership

On July 18, Netflix teamed up with leading satellite radio broadcaster Sirius XM (SIRI). Netflix will launch its stand-up comedy channel Netflix Is a Joke Radio on Sirius XM’s channel list in January 2019. It’s the first time Netflix has thought beyond video streaming and selected a separate distribution platform to launch its product.

In order to expand its business and drive its revenue, Netflix seems to be changing its attitude toward mergers and acquisitions as well as using a new distribution platform to promote its products. These deals may help Netflix generate strong revenue growth. In the above chart, you can see the growth in Netflix’s revenue for the last five quarters.
