Google Assistant to support Nest camera
As Alphabet (GOOGL) announced last month, Google Assistant will now support the Nest Cam IQ indoor security camera to manage smart home devices. Google has a smart speaker and home automation system called Google Home, which is powered by Google Assistant. It is similar to Amazon’s (AMZN) Alexa, the technology behind Amazon Echo smart speakers.
Specifications of Nest security camera
Nest’s new indoor security camera—the Nest Cam IQ—will now be enabled with Google Assistant and available in late winter. The company didn”t provide a software update to the outdoor version of the Cam IQ.
With the support of Google Assistant, the $299 camera can perform simple tasks such as basic Google searches and temperature and weather announcements. It can also add appointments to the calendar and do other functions similar to any other technology with Google Assistant. The updated camera is more intelligent and can recognize faces. It can now tell the difference between human beings and objects.
The company announced that the Nest Aware subscription previously cost $10 for ten days, or $30 for 30 days, for cloud video recording. Now, Nest Aware subscribers can opt for a $5-for-five-day option of cloud storage.
Home automation market is booming
According to MarketsandMarkets, the home automation system industry is expected to be worth $79.6 billion by 2022.
Because of the rising demand for home automation, technology giants are trying to take a bigger slice of the home speaker market, which is dominated by Amazon and Google. Apple (AAPL), with its smart home platform HomeKit, has recently announced the launch of its smart speaker, HomePod, which can be controlled by Apple’s voice assistant, Siri. The Siri-powered HomePod speaker will compete with Facebook’s (FB) Portal, which is expected to launch in the home speaker segment with a price of around $499.
