On December 13, 2017, VMware (VMW), whose specialty is business mobility and cloud infrastructure, announced that it has been dubbed a leader in the “IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Enterprise Mobility Management Software for Ruggedized/IoT Device Deployments 2017 Vendor Assessment.”
VMware Workspace ONE is the company’s digital workspace platform that integrates enterprise mobility management with identity and digital workspace capabilities. VMware Workspace ONE is powered by AirWatch, a SaaS (Software as a Service) offering. AirWatch is part of VMware’s end-user computing.
On December 6, 2017, VMware announced that the company was named a leader in EMM (enterprise mobility management) by Forrester Research for 4Q17.
Key factors that made VMware a leader
The above chart by IDC (International Data Corporation) shows VMware’s leadership in the EMM space. VMware’s AirWatch has a comprehensive set of features to manage Microsoft’s (MSFT) Windows 10, Apple’s (AAPL) macOS, and Google ‘s (GOOG) Chrome OS (operating system). IDC recognizes VMware’s “foray into analytics and IT operations data analysis is a differentiation capability that has the potential to transform EMM from an IT infrastructure platform to a strategic business analysis and optimization tool.”
Highlighting the key factors that make VMware a leader in the EMM space, Forrester said, “VMware’s product is distinct at several levels, including its broad support for traditional and emerging endpoints, such as ChromeOS and smart glasses, and its unification of virtual apps with native, SaaS, and web apps in a single enterprise app store, enabled with single sign-on (SSO).”
