Short Interest in AmeriGas Partners Fell Recently

According to data released on August 24, 2017, the short interest as a percentage of floating shares in AmeriGas Partners (APU) on August 15 was 3.3%, compared to 3.4% on July 31, 2017.

The total APU shares shorted fell from ~2.31 million to ~2.26 million. The current short interest in APU, however, is higher than the five-year average of ~2.20%.

The chart above shows the short interest in AmeriGas Partners, Ferrellgas Partners (FGP), Suburban Propane Partners (SPH), and Star Gas Partners (SGU) since the start of 2017. As the chart shows, the short interest in APU, FGP, and SPH has risen significantly during the year.

Short interest in FGP

The short interest as a percentage of floating shares in Ferrellgas Partners stock is 3.14% compared to 3.10% at the end of July. The current short interest in Ferrellgas Partners is also higher than its average of ~2.20% over the past five years.

The total number of Ferrellgas Partners shares shorted was ~2.13 million on August 15, 2017, which is 1.5% higher than the ~2.10 million shorted shares on July 31, 2017.

Short interest in SPH

The short interest as a percentage of floating shares in Suburban Propane Partners stock is 3.5%, 0.2% higher than 3.3% reported for the end of July. The current short interest in Suburban Propane Partners is also higher than its average of ~1.1% over the past five years.

The total number of Suburban Propane Partners shares shorted was ~2.1 million on August 15, 2017—6.8% higher than the ~2.0 million shorted shares on July 31, 2017.

Short interest in SGU

The short interest as a percentage of floating shares in Star Gas Partners stock is 0.05%—higher than 0.04% at the end of July. The current short interest in Star Gas Partners is, however, lower than its average of ~0.07% over the past five years.

The total number of Star Gas Partners shares shorted was 27,797 on August 15, 2017—30% higher than the 21,342 million shorted shares on July 31, 2017.
