Key economic indicators
Global investors should keep an eye on economic indicators to understand the condition of global economies (ACWI) (VTI). Indicators are important because they show a country’s economic health. They help investors identify short-term economic trends and changes in market sentiments.
Important global indicators released last week include the following:
- Eurozone (HEDJ) (EZU) Consumer Confidence
- Eurozone (VGK) (IEV) inflation
- Eurozone ZEW Economic Sentiment Index
- Germany (EWG) ZEW Economic Sentiment Index
- United Kingdom (EWU) inflation
In this series, we’ll look at the performance of the Eurozone Consumer Confidence for July 2017 and the performance of the ZEW Economic Sentiment Index for July for the Eurozone and Germany (EWG). The ZEW Economic Sentiment Index shows the level of confidence economists have about the economic situation.
We’ll also analyze inflation for the United Kingdom and the Eurozone for June 2017. The inflation index is an important indicator for the economy and the markets (SPY) (QQQ). A rise in the inflation index will also help central banks in their decision-making processes.
In the next part of this series, we’ll analyze the performance of the Eurozone Consumer Confidence Index in July 2017.
