Comcast’s high-speed Internet business

In fiscal 2Q17, Comcast’s (CMCSA) high-speed Internet business was the largest revenue contributor to Comcast’s Cable Communications segment.

Earlier this year, the company also launched a Wi-Fi gateway, xFI, which offers a personalized Wi-Fi experience to its users. Comcast continues to be optimistic about the growth of its broadband business.

Comcast’s high-speed Internet business in fiscal 2Q17

Comcast’s high-speed Internet business had revenue of $3.7 billion in fiscal 2Q17, up 9.2% year-over-year. The company had 140,000 residential customer additions in fiscal 2Q17. Comcast is adopting a market segmentation strategy for its high-speed Internet business, and currently, 55% of its residential customers have opted for speeds of 100 Mbps (megabits per second) or higher.

Comcast’s Xfinity Home

The company is also bullish about its home security business, Xfinity Home, which was launched around six years ago. The company believes that this business could be more successful, as it expects that the home security market could reach ~$9 billion in the United States (SPY).
