Merchant power players’ total returns

Merchant power companies have dug a deep hole in investors’ pockets in the last one year. Though these stocks have shown a sharp recovery so far this year, they were major underperformers last year. Considering the total returns of merchant stocks in the last 12 months, NRG Energy (NRG) returned -27% while Dynegy (DYN) returned -42%. Peer Calpine (CPN) returned -27% in the last one year.

Total return considers the capital gains and dividends paid in the specific time period.
