Retail sales and customer growth in Texas

In the last few quarters, lower electricity usage per customer has been partially offset by CenterPoint Energy’s (CNP) increased customer base. The company registered residential customer growth of 2.3% in Texas last year, which was well above the industry average. Management is confident of continued customer base growth in the near future despite job cuts and slower industrial growth in Texas.


Nearly 70% of CenterPoint Energy’s operating income in 2015 came from Texas. Xcel Energy (XEL) and American Electric Power (AEP) also have a noteworthy presence in Texas.
