Sprint’s network speed and data performance in Corpus Christi
In the last part of this series, we learned that Sprint’s (S) overall network performance in Corpus Christi improved significantly in 2H15 from that of 1H15, as per RootMetrics metro results for the market. Sprint’s performance in metrics for data and network speed also improved in 2H15 in this market.
Sprint’s press release on November 16, 2015, mentioned the carrier’s top position in network speed and data performance as per the RootMetrics results.
The press release also said, “During testing Sprint had the fastest median download speed at 22Mbps, up from 3.3Mbps in the previous report, and RootMetrics was able to experience Sprint’s newly deployed carrier aggregation technology on the 2.5GHz spectrum band. This feature of LTE-Advanced essentially creates a wider lane that allows more network traffic to travel at higher rates, enabling Sprint to provide Corpus Christi customers with even faster data speeds.”
Network speed of wireless players in Corpus Christi in 2H15
Based on RootMetrics results for Corpus Christi, Sprint’s rank in the network speed metric improved significantly in 2H15 from its fourth-place position in 1H15. T-Mobile’s (TMUS) position in the metric also improved a notch to second place in 2H15.
Verizon (VZ) maintained its second-place spot in the metric for this market in 2H15, tying with T-Mobile. Meanwhile, AT&T’s (T) rank dropped three notches in the network speed metric to fourth place in 2H15.
Instead of taking direct exposure to Sprint’s stock, you may consider taking diversified exposure to the telecommunication company by investing in the iShares US Telecommunications ETF (IYZ).
The ETF had ~3.5% of its holdings in Sprint at the end of September 2015.
