SanDisk’s 3Q15 Net Margin Highest among Storage Giants at 9.16%

Gross margins in 3Q15

The gross margin for SanDisk (SNDK) has been declining year-over-year (or YoY) from 49.35% in 3Q13 to 46.79% in 3Q14 and 41.51% in 3Q15. Seagate’s (STX) gross margin has decreased marginally as well, from 27.94% in 3Q13 to 27.77% in 3Q14. The gross margin for Seagate declined by 4.26% to 23.51% in 3Q15.

Western Digital’s (WDC) gross margin increased from 28.60% in 3Q13 to 29.14% in 3Q14, and it decreased marginally to 28.42% in 3Q15.

3Q15 operating margins

SanDisk’s (SNDK) operating margin has been declining year-over-year from 25.13% in 3Q13 to 22.20% in 3Q14 and 16.35% in 3Q15. The operating margin for Seagate (STX) has decreased marginally as well, from 13.70% in 3Q13 to 12.05% in 3Q14. Seagate’s operating margin declined 9% to 2.94% in 3Q15.

The operating margin for Western Digital (WDC) increased from 28.60% in 3Q13 to 29.14% in 3Q14. It decreased marginally to 28.42% in 3Q15.

3Q15 net margins

The net margin for SanDisk (SNDK) has been declining YoY from 17.04% in 3Q13 to 15.04% in 3Q14 and 9.16% in 3Q15. Seagate’s (STX) net margin has decreased marginally as well, from 12.24% in 3Q13 to 10.07% in 3Q14. The net margin for Seagate declined 9% to 1.16% in 3Q15. Western Digital’s (WDC) net margin decreased from 13.01% in 3Q13 to 10.73% in 3Q14 and 8.42% in 3Q15.

Western Digital makes up 0.50% of the Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) and 0.35% of the Powershares QQQ ETF (QQQ).
