Oracle acquires TOA Technologies

In July 2014, Oracle (ORCL) acquired TOA technologies, maker of software for companies centered around field services in the cloud space. It didn’t disclose the financial terms of the deal. TOA’s SaaS software enables the companies to monitor real-time field service requests, scheduling the right field service representative, using business analytics to monitor and view current inventories, and accurately predicting service windows. It helps companies streamline their operations and consequently optimize field service operations.
Why Oracle acquired TOA Technologies to gain an advantage

Oracle has spent heavily on acquisitions to expand its cloud presence

Oracle has spent approximately $50 billion to acquire 100 companies in the last ten years. In 2014, Oracle acquired seven companies—Corente, BlueKai, Front Porch Digital, GreenBytes, LiveLOOK, MICROS Systems, and TOA Technologies. Leading software players IBM Corp. (IBM), SAP AG (SAP), and Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) all have actively pursued strategic acquisitions.

How this acquisition benefits Oracle

Oracle’s ex CEO, Larry Ellison, has acknowledged as a threat. (CRM) has partnered with ServiceMax and ClickWorkforce for field services capabilities.

Oracle Service Cloud is part of Oracle Customer Experience Cloud, a platform for online customer service, cross-channel contact center, knowledge management, and policy automation. Oracle ERP cloud solutions help accelerate productivity, allocate resources, and provide on-demand information access.

When TOA combines with Oracle Service Cloud and Oracle ERP cloud solutions, it’s expected to empower innovative customer service organizations that will drive operational efficiencies and boost customer satisfaction through personalized service. This acquisition will boost Oracle’s SaaS offerings and integrate its customer-facing capabilities with the back office.
