BlackBerry’s QNX Technology Now in 120 Million Vehicles
BlackBerry (BB) recently announced that its QNX software has been embedded in more than 120 million vehicles.

BlackBerry (BB) recently announced that its QNX software has been embedded in more than 120 million vehicles. Several automotive OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) use BlackBerry’s QNX technology in hands-free systems, driver assistance systems, connectivity modules, and infotainment systems used across brands such as BMW, Audi, Ford (F), General Motors (GM), Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Porsche, Toyota, Maserati, and Volkswagen.
BlackBerry’s CEO John Chen stated, “Three years ago, BlackBerry QNX technology was inside 60 million cars. Today, that figure has doubled as the world’s leading automakers, their tier one suppliers, and chip manufacturers have put their trust in BlackBerry.”
The software components in cars are increasingly becoming more vital with the advent of self-driving vehicles. Automotive partners are banking on BlackBerry’s QNX technology to provide a secure and safe platform.
QNX was acquired by BlackBerry in 2010
BlackBerry acquired QNX in 2010 for $200 million. The business generated ~$160 million in revenue in fiscal 2018. Last year, BlackBerry announced a partnership with Qualcomm (QCOM) to optimize the latter’s platforms with QNX for next-generation connected cars and autonomous vehicles.
