Integrated energy stocks’ beats and misses in 3Q17
Integrated energy stocks ExxonMobil (XOM), Chevron (CVX), Royal Dutch Shell (RDS.A), and BP (BP) reported generally robust results in 3Q17. Three of these companies beat Wall Street analysts’ 3Q17 earnings estimates while one missed its estimates. Let’s have a look at each company.

ExxonMobil’s 3Q17 earnings beat estimates
ExxonMobil (XOM) posted its 3Q17 results on October 27, 2017. In 3Q17, XOM’s revenues surpassed Wall Street estimates by 4.0%. The company’s 3Q17 reported EPS (earnings per share) stood at $0.93.
When adjusting its earnings for the impact of Hurricane Harvey, ExxonMobil’s adjusted EPS stood at $0.97, about 12.7% higher than its estimated EPS of $0.86. XOM’s 3Q17 earnings per share were 54.0% YoY higher than its 3Q16 EPS.
Chevron’s 3Q17 earnings missed estimates
Chevron (CVX) posted its 3Q17 results on October 27, 2017. In 3Q17, CVX’s revenues beat Wall Street analysts’ estimates by 6.3%. In 3Q17, Chevron reported EPS of $1.03. After adjusting for special items, Chevron’s adjusted EPS stood at $0.85 in 3Q17.
CVX’s adjusted EPS missed its estimated EPS of $0.98 by ~13.0% in 3Q17. However, Chevron’s 3Q17 adjusted earnings per share were 73.0% higher than its adjusted EPS in 3Q16.
Shell’s 3Q17 earnings surpassed estimates
Royal Dutch Shell (RDS.A) released its 3Q17 results on November 2, 2017. In 3Q17, Royal Dutch Shell’s revenues exceeded Wall Street analyst estimates by 4.0%.
Shell’s adjusted EPS (earnings per ADS) stood at $0.99 compared to its estimated EPS of $0.84, which beat analyst estimates. Shell’s 3Q17 EPS is 46.0% higher than its 3Q16 adjusted EPS.
BP’s 3Q17 earnings exceeded estimates
BP (BP) declared its 3Q17 earnings on October 31, 2017, and its revenues surpassed Wall Street analysts’ estimates. BP posted diluted EPS (earnings per ADS) of $0.53 in 3Q17.
However, BP’s adjusted EPS stood at $0.56 compared to its estimated EPS of $0.49, beating analyst estimates. BP’s 3Q17 adjusted EPS stood 93.0% higher than its 3Q16 adjusted EPS.
