Why Amazon Wants a Second Headquarters in North America
Amazon to have a second headquarters in the continent by next year
Amazon (AMZN) announced last Thursday, September 7, that it will have North American metro cities bid to be the home of its second headquarters on the continent to pursue tax credits. Amazon will solicit bids until October 19 and is expected to come out with the decision by next year.
Amazon is likely to spend as much as $5 billion and create around 50,000 jobs. Amazon already has a staff of 380,000 globally, which makes it one of the biggest employers in the sector. The company said in January that it will add 100,000 employees to its payroll by mid-2018.

The second headquarters will be “full equal” to Seattle headquarters
The company said the new campus will be a “full equal” to its headquarters in Seattle. The Seattle headquarters is the keystone of the city’s business life. It employs about 40,000 individuals and has a whopping 33 buildings.
According to the company, it has created $1.40 for the city’s economy in the last seven years for every dollar of direct investment it made in Seattle. Earlier this year, the company unveiled its headquarters in London.
The move is a bold statement by the company and highlights its growth ambition for the future. It comes at a time when another tech giant, Apple (AAPL), has just finished building its own new headquarters in Cupertino. The new headquarters will host an event next week in which the iPhone maker will be unveiling its new iPhone.
