As the graph above notes, short interest in Chesapeake Energy stock and its stock price have moved in opposite directions since 2017 began.

Short interest ratio in Chesapeake Energy stock has risen significantly since the beginning of 2017, which is usually considered a bearish sign. Increasing short interest despite a decreasing stock price indicates that investors see a downside in CHK stock.

However, as we can see above, short interest in CHK has recently declined. This could mean that at least some investors no longer see an ongoing downside in the stock.
