Inside Walt Disney’s World Expansion: An Overview
Tron attraction coming to Magic Kingdom
Walt Disney (DIS) is bringing a Tron attraction to its Magic Kingdom Park as part of the ongoing expansion of its Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. The company has said that Tron is its highest-rated attraction at the Shanghai Disneyland in China. The Tron attraction is a coaster-style attraction that involves rides on a train of a two-wheeled Lightcycle.
Disney wants to spread the success of Tron to Walt Disney World Resort as it seeks to boost business at one its key theme park locations. Magic Kingdom Park is already a busy amusement destination, and the addition of Tron is expected to make it even more popular. Disney describes Tron as one of the most thrilling adventures at any of its parks.

Marking the golden anniversary in style
Disney said it wanted to open the Tron attraction at the Magic Kingdom Park in time for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World. The “golden anniversary” of the resort will be marked in 2021.
Disney sees that it needs to shore up its Magic Kingdom Park with new attractions. In 2016, Magic Kingdom attracted fewer guests than it did the previous year. By opening Tron at the Magic Kingdom, Disney could boost income from this amusement park.
$72.8 billion revenue opportunity
The global amusement park market is projected to be worth $53.1 billion by the end of 2017 and should grow to $72.8 billion by 2021, according to market intelligence firm Technavio.
Disney is battling for the control of this multibillion-dollar industry against Six Flags Entertainment (SIX), SeaWorld Entertainment (SEAS), Cedar Fair (FUN), and Comcast (CMCSA) in the theme park business.
