Developments in Dentsply Sirona’s Digital Dentistry Portfolio

Overview of Dentsply Sirona

Dentsply Sirona (XRAY) offers a leading portfolio of dental consumables and technology with an advanced digital dentistry portfolio. On September 20, 2017, the company announced an enhancement to its Galileos Implant software. The company announced the flexibility enhancement to the software with the ability to import third-party intra-oral surface scan data.

According to Dr. Stefan Hehn, group vice president of Dentsply Sirona Imaging Systems, “We observe that the application of different devices in dental practices triggers the customers’ demand to use the generated data in one single application. The new option enables our customers to merge any third-party STL with 3D X-ray data from Dentsply Sirona devices to support the implant planning process and the construction of surgical guides.”

Galileos Implant software

Dentsply Sirona offers integrated implantology workflow that consists of what it calls safe, optimally synchronized procedures. The Galileos Implant software is an implant planning system that merges the data extracted from the imaging systems Galileos or Orthophos 3D with digital impressions or CEREC system–created prosthetic designs. Implant planning and placement using surgical guides are done on the basis of these datasets. On the basis of the bone quality, vital anatomical structures, and prosthetic requirements of the patient, clinicians can easily find the optimal implant position.

Digital dentistry

Digital dentistry has evolved over the past few years and has been established as the standard procedure in the industry. It’s said to be a safer, more accurate treatment alternative. According to the company, recent enhancements to the Galileos Implant software make it “possible to plan implant treatments with surgical guides utilizing digital impressions that are created by third-party intraoral scans or by the digitalization of a physical model.”
