How VMware’s End-User Computing Business Performed in Fiscal 2Q18

Workspace ONE drove growth in EUC business

So far, we’ve discussed the performance of VMware’s (VMW) various offerings in fiscal 2Q18, its most recent quarter. Let’s see how its EUC (End-User Computing) business has performed.

In fiscal 2Q18, VMware’s EUC business reported a 20% YoY (year-over-year) rise in its license bookings, which was supported by consistent growth in sales in its Mobile and Desktop Software segment. According to VMware’s CEO, Pat Gelsinger, the company saw “exceptional early market success for Workspace ONE. Total Compute bookings were up approximately 10% with compute license bookings up in the mid-single digits year-over-year.”

Workspace ONE is the company’s digital workspace technology, which offers a comprehensive solution across any app, device, and operating system. Gelsinger added that Workspace ONE has enabled its customers to consolidate “their mobile identity and desktop solutions into a single platform.”

VMware–HP partnership

Workspace ONE’s increasing popularity persuaded Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) to enter into a partnership with VMware. Announced at the recent VMworld conference, this partnership involves the addition of VMware Workspace ONE to HP’s DaaS (device-as-a-service) technology platform.

HP’s DaaS platform is a managed offering that integrates lifecycle services, devices, and support. According to IDC, the DaaS model can help in not only saving money but also leading to a reduction in IT workloads.

Workspace ONE integrates application management, access control, and multi-platform endpoint management. According to VMware, it can help IT install security patches and OS updates more quickly. So, Workspace ONE and the DaaS model seem to complement each other.
