Sempra Energy (SRE) paid annual dividends totaling $3.02 per share in 2016. By comparison, peers Edison International (EIX) and PG&E Corporation (PCG) paid per-share dividends of $1.98 and $1.93, respectively, in 2016.

As we discussed in Part 1 of this series, Sempra’s dividend has grown by more than 10% over the past five years, while Edison International’s dividend has grown by 8.5%, compounded annually, during the same period. Notably, the largest Californian utility (XLU) by market capitalization, PG&E Corporation, managed to increase its dividend by mere 0.8%, compounded annually, during the same period.
