Truckload and special services

Old Dominion offers transportation solutions for oversized commodities, full truckload services between the US, Canada, and Mexico, flatbed service, and dedicated service. The company’s line-haul services for assembly and distribution programs also allow clients to streamline their transportation program more effectively.

ODFL provides a variety of value-added services to its domestic and global freight shipping service. These include an online website for a handy shipment visibility across its distribution channels.

Warehousing and distribution solutions

These services include pick and pack, replenishment, ticketing, labeling, and many other merchandise services. Old Dominion offers strategically placed warehouse facilities in two of the US’s major gateways. These facilities allow ODFL to speed cycle times, reduce operating costs and improve inventory levels. The company’s target industries include retail (WBA), food and beverage (KO), paper (IP), consumer products (UN), and electronics (AAPL).

The company’s warehousing solutions are designed to assist companies without in-house logistics services. These solutions allow customers to focus on their core business by letting their freight and cargo handled by the shipper.

Transportation and logistics companies make up part of the industrial sector. Railroads and airlines make up ~5.2% and ~4.8%, respectively, of the portfolio holdings of the iShares US Industrials ETF (IYJ).

In the next part, we’ll focus on ODFL’s expedited services.
